Odisha: Cabinet approves Quota for govt school students in MBBS and BTech

The state government of Odisha has agreed to reserve seats in engineering and medical colleges for government school students. The quota will apply from the next academic year. Students completing enrolment exams from state-run schools would be able to make use of the quota, irrespective of their economic context.

The strategy will take effect from academic session 2021-22. Fewer meritorious government and junior college students in the state have been admitted to engineering and medical colleges due to centralised exams such as NEET and JEE, said Saswat Mishra, commissioner-cum-secretary of higher education.

The High-Level Committee, led by a former High Court judge, will be composed of eminent individuals, including educators, to carry out the modalities of implementation. The Committee will have to request a draught within three months for the proposal to be enforced as of the next academic year.

The quota in engineering and medical colleges for students passing out from state-run schools will be introduced from the next academic year," School and Mass Education Minister SR Dash said.
