Karnataka Education Minister directs to introduce 10 minutes of ‘dhyana’ in schools, colleges

To fight stress among the youth in our country,

B.C. Nagesh, the Minister of School Education and Literacy for Karnataka, has issued a circular ordering the Department of Public Instruction to require pupils in all schools and pre-university colleges throughout the State to practise "dhyana" (meditation) for 10 minutes each day.

According to the circular from Mr. Nagesh, meditation is already practised in some schools, and there have been suggestions to implement meditation in schools throughout the State. "It is necessary to make students meditate every day to reduce physical and mental stress, and help them improve concentration and health," he added.
