IIT Kanpur sets up Centre To aid students with non-English educational backgrounds


The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur establishes the 'Shivani Centre,' which attempts to assist


. The centre focuses on integrating students with backgrounds in Hindi and other Indian languages (OILs).


According to a statement from IIT Kanpur, the newly established Shivani Centre aims to nurture and reintegrate Hindi and other Indian languages, and will ensure the availability of course content in regional languages to overcome the challenge of limited job opportunities at the end of the academic programme.


Due to linguistic difficulties, students who are fluent in other Indian languages have a difficult time obtaining work, and this initiative by IIT Kanpur is one step that will assist them overcome this problem.


“The Shivani Centre is expected to bring about a paradigm shift in the educational practices on the campus of IIT Kanpur. It will ensure seamless integration of students of Hindi and OILs background at the institute and will fulfill the objectives laid out in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.” said Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur
