Amrita University Offers MTech In Defence Technology


Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a leading multidisciplinary teaching and research institution in the city, has become one of the first to offer MTech in Defence Technology, a post-graduate programme developed jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).


The degree was created with the goal of satisfying the rising talent demands of India's fast-growing defence sector, and it is now being given at the institution. Engineering students with undergraduate degrees are being sought for admission to the institution for the academic year 2021-22.


Students from a wide range of technical courses - from chemical engineering to computer science - can apply because Defence Technology is a multi-disciplinary topic, according to a university statement. MTech in Defence Technology programmes are meant to generate postgraduates with the theoretical and experimental knowledge, skills, and aptitude in a variety of defence systems and contemporary technologies, as well as the ability to conduct research and development

.On the launch of M.Tech in Defence Technology, G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO, said there is an urgent need to expand the research base for developing advanced technology and for accelerating India’s tech self-reliance in defence."Amrita has been working with DRDO on many of the advanced technologies - particularly in the defence R&D.


I am sure that the university will be a fountainhead of talent for the robust defence R&D, and manufacturing ecosystem for the defence industry in the country,” he said.P Venkat Rangan, Vice-Chancellor of Amrita University, said their vision is to contribute to nation-building by offering quality higher education in the fields of strategic importance to the country in engineering, medicine, education, and social sciences.
