The flagship Yuva initiative, which falls under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) of the Skill Development Ministry, aims to empower school dropouts through the Unnati platform. The programme also aims to assist youth from low-income families.
"Many children have been connected with this project, and we have obtained detailed data about them," says Gaurav Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (Southwest), Delhi Police. Many school dropouts have been trained in mobile repair, beauty parlour, and gardening courses. When such kids talked with us and expressed a desire in continuing their education, the idea of educating school dropouts and other young people were born. So far, some 300 school dropouts from low-income families have been identified."
For the first time crime doers, we aim to involve them in sports-related courses which would positively channelise their energies and eradicate negativity from their persona. We had identified a course of ‘Digital Literacy’ which has eight modules consisting of basic computer courses, typing training and preparatory courses for competitive examinations. A teacher was hired for preparing the module for digital literacy which was uploaded on the portal. After the completion of course, students would have to appear in a test in an online mode. After clearing the test, they would be awarded a certificate. Subsequent to this, we will send their CVs to the prospective employer so that they get a job.”
