Delhi University Opens Admissions for 2025-26 with New Tie-Breaker Rule and Expanded Programmes

New Delhi, June 19 — Delhi University (DU) has officially opened the admission process for the 2025-26 academic year, with the launch of its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal for undergraduate registrations. This year’s admission cycle brings significant updates, including a new tie-breaker rule and an expanded range of academic and skill-based programmes.

Class 10 Scores Now Part of Tie-Breaking Criteria

One of the most notable changes this year is the inclusion of Class 10 board exam scores as an additional tie-breaker, to be used when applicants have identical CUET and Class 12 marks. Announcing the upgrade, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said the admission portal now features an auto-accept option to ensure students do not miss out on seat allotments due to delayed confirmations.

DU is offering 79 undergraduate programmes across 69 colleges, with 71,624 seats up for grabs. The academic session is scheduled to begin on August 1.

New Scoring Flexibility and Policy Updates

In a move towards flexibility, students can now apply using either one language and three subjects or two languages and two subjects—whichever combination yields a higher CUET score will be considered. Additionally, the previous requirement of a minimum 30% score in language subjects for admission to BSc (Hons) programmes has been scrapped.

The second phase of the undergraduate admission process will begin after CUET results are announced.

Focus on Skill-Based Education

DU has also opened admissions for its Centre for Innovative Skill-Based Courses, aimed at enhancing employability and practical training for students through a range of specialised programmes.

Postgraduate Admissions Gain Momentum

At the postgraduate level, 11,314 seat allocations have already been made, with nearly 2,000 students accepting seats within just two hours of the announcements. This year, DU is offering 82 postgraduate programmes, including new additions such as MA in Tourism Management and MA in Hindi Journalism. The university also plans to introduce an MA in Journalism under the Department of English.

In a move promoting gender equity, DU has introduced a one-seat quota for single-girl child applicants in each postgraduate programme.

Law, BTech, and Open Learning Admissions Also Live

Admission portals are now open for five-year integrated law programmes, BTech courses, and School of Open Learning (SOL) offerings. While most postgraduate admissions in SOL will be conducted via CUET scores, programmes such as MBA, BLISc, MLISc, and PGDADLM will continue to follow a merit-based admission route.

With an expanded range of courses and a more student-centric admission process, Delhi University is aiming to streamline access and enhance academic opportunities for students across disciplines.
