Maharashtra: Decision soon on promoting students of Classes IX, XI without exams

The state government can promote students in classes IX and XI without examinations after imposing restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19 in Maharashtra. According to reports, a decision will be made shortly.

Varsha Gaikwad, the Minister of School Education, met with department officials on Tuesday to address the question of conducting offline exams for students in classes IX and XI, as well as whether or not they should be promoted.

The question of how to conduct Board exams for classes X and XII was also addressed in the meeting, according to the official.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education had previously declared that Class XII exams would take place between April 23 and May 21, and Class X exams would take place between April 29 and May 20.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray said on Tuesday that all students in Classes X and XII should be promoted without having to sit for exams, similar to how students in Classes I to VIII were promoted.

“All students in Classes X and XII should be encouraged in the same way as other students are promoted” (Classes I to VIII). We have no idea the emotional anguish these children have experienced as a result of the pandemic,” Thackeray said.
