National Sub-Junior Taekwondo Championship in Delhi Inaugurated by BJP's Yumnam Khemchand Singh

New Delhi, January 13, 2026 — BJP legislator and former Manipur Rural Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday inaugurated the 39th National Sub-Junior Kyorugi and 14th National Sub-Junior Poomsae Taekwondo Championship at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here.

The national-level event is being organised by the Delhi Taekwondo Association, which is affiliated with the Delhi Olympic Association, and has drawn young Taekwondo athletes from across the country.

Kyorugi refers to the combat or sparring discipline of Taekwondo, while Poomsae emphasises structured forms and techniques, akin to Kata in other martial arts.

A veteran Taekwondo practitioner, Singh recently earned his 5th Dan in traditional Taekwondo from the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation, Seoul. He is an alumnus of the World Taekwondo Academy (Kukkiwon), Seoul, having graduated in 1991. Singh played a significant role in popularising Taekwondo in India during the 1980s and was instrumental in the establishment of the Taekwondo Federation of India.

He also served as the founding president of the All Assam Taekwondo Association in 1982 and later as vice president of the national federation, contributing extensively to the growth and promotion of the sport in Manipur and other parts of the country.

The championship aims to provide a competitive platform for emerging talent and strengthen the grassroots development of Taekwondo in India.
