Clad in his ISRO astronaut’s jacket, Shukla presented the Axiom-4 mission patch to PM Modi and shared images of Earth taken from space. “India is proud of his feat,” the Prime Minister posted on X after the meeting.

Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 private space mission that launched from Florida on June 25, docked at the ISS on June 26, and concluded with his return to Earth on July 15. The crew, which also included astronauts Peggy Whitson (US), Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary), conducted over 60 scientific experiments and 20 outreach sessions during their 18-day stay.

Reflecting on his journey, Shukla wrote on Instagram before his return flight to India: “I feel sad leaving behind a fantastic group of people who were my family for the past year, but I am excited to reunite with everyone in India. Goodbyes are hard, but as my commander Peggy Whitson says, the only constant in spaceflight is change.”

He also recalled listening to a song from the Bollywood film Swades before embarking on the mission. Quoting its lines, he added: “At the end of the day, ‘Yun hi chala chal rahi – jeevan gaadi hai samay pahiya.’”
