US Ambassador Sergio Gor Explores Bengaluru’s Street Food and Startup Spirit with Tejasvi Surya

Sergio Gor recently immersed himself in the local culture of Bengaluru during a visit hosted by Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya. From savouring crisp, authentic dosas to taking a ride in an auto-rickshaw, the US envoy embraced the city’s vibrant spirit—though it was Bengaluru’s famed street food that truly stole the spotlight.

Soon after the outing, Gor shared a photo of himself enjoying dosas alongside Surya at a rustic, brick-walled eatery. Seated at a simple wooden table, the two relished a traditional South Indian spread featuring dosas served with bowls of sambar and two varieties of chutney.

Praising the city’s unmatched energy, Gor wrote, “Just arrived in Bengaluru! From startups to street food, Bengaluru's energy is unmatched! Thank you to my great host, Tejasvi Surya.”

Surya also posted glimpses of their meeting on X, revealing that they enjoyed a hearty South Indian breakfast with filter coffee at Filter Coffee in Indiranagar. In one picture, Gor is seen sampling soft idlis. Sharing details of their interaction, Surya wrote, “Delighted to welcome H.E. Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India, to Bengaluru today. Over some masala dosa & strong coffee at Filter Coffee, Indiranagar, we had an engaging conversation.”

In another post, Surya highlighted Bengaluru’s unique blend of heritage and innovation, remarking that the city represents the journey “from masala dosa to machine learning,” underscoring its identity as both a global IT powerhouse and a culinary haven. He also connected the visit to the broader India–US partnership, noting Bengaluru’s growing importance in strengthening bilateral ties.

Earlier, Surya had celebrated the spirit of Japan–India friendship as well, referencing a visit by Ono Keiichi to a Bengaluru restaurant founded by Japanese entrepreneurs. After the Japanese envoy shared his experience of enjoying pizzas in the city, Surya reposted it and spoke about the expanding cultural and culinary exchanges between the two nations.
