Clearwater, Florida | July 24, 2025 — Professional wrestling icon Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to authorities and WWE.The beloved Hall of Famer, known for his signature mustache, bandanas, and booming catchphrases, passed away Thursday morning in Clearwater, Florida.
Police confirmed they responded to a medical emergency early in the day and that Hogan—born Terry Gene Bollea—was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Widely considered one of the most influential figures in wrestling history, Hogan was the face of WWE throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. He headlined the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985 and went on to battle legendary rivals such as Andre the Giant, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, The Rock, and even WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Hogan was a six-time WWE Champion and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. His impact extended beyond wrestling rings, as he became a global pop culture figure and TV personality, starring in movies, reality shows, and commercials.
In recent years, Hogan had faced several health issues, including multiple back and neck surgeries. Just days ago, his wife denied circulating rumors that he was in critical condition following recent surgery.
Outside the ring, Hogan made headlines in 2016 after winning a landmark privacy lawsuit against Gawker Media, which had published a sex tape involving him. A Florida jury awarded him $115 million in damages, with an additional $25 million added in punitive damages.
Despite personal and legal battles, Hogan remained a fan favorite and a symbol of wrestling's golden age. “Everywhere I show up, people treat me like I'm still the champ,” he once said proudly.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), WWE paid tribute to Hogan, calling him “one of pop culture's most recognizable figures” and crediting him with helping to bring global attention to the sport. “WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans,” the organization said.
Hogan is survived by his wife and children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
