For most teenagers, space remains a distant dream visible only through telescopes and textbooks. But for 14-year-old Mahima Rajput from Raipur, that dream is rapidly becoming a reality.
The Class 10 student has earned a place in ShakthiSAT, an international space education programme that has brought together young minds from 108 countries with a shared passion for science, technology and space exploration.
Mahima discovered the opportunity through her school principal and guidance teacher. Encouraged to apply, she registered for the programme and successfully secured her place among students selected from around the world.
The journey ahead promises to be an exciting one. Participants will undergo a comprehensive training programme consisting of 21 modules and 365 lessons designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of science, satellites and space missions in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.
Beyond classroom learning, students will gain practical experience in satellite design and construction, allowing them to understand how real space missions are planned and executed.
As part of the programme, Mahima and other selected students will travel to Delhi on August 23 to participate in hands-on satellite-building activities. The initiative aims to provide young learners with direct exposure to space technology while encouraging collaboration among students from different cultures and countries.
The mission carries ambitious goals. Organisers plan to launch satellites into space in October, with one satellite expected to land on the Moon and another set to orbit around it.
For Mahima, the selection marks more than a personal achievement. It represents the growing presence of young Indian students in global scientific initiatives and serves as an inspiration for countless children who dream of reaching for the stars.
From the classrooms of Raipur to a mission connected to the Moon, Mahima's journey is a reminder that curiosity, determination and opportunity can take young minds farther than they ever imagined.
