IISc Bangalore Deep Learning Course 2025: Registrations Now Open

ree

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in partnership with SWAYAM, has opened registrations for its free online course on Deep Learning. Titled “Foundations of Deep Learning: Concepts and Applications,” the course is ideal for both undergraduate and postgraduate students—even those with no prior background in deep learning.

Starting with beginner-friendly questions—like the difference between machine learning and deep learning—the course gradually progresses to advanced topics such as Gradient Descent (GD), Backpropagation (MSE), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and includes weekly hands-on exercises.

The course will run for three months, from January 19 to April 10, 2026, and will be taught by Professor Sriram Ganapathy, Professor Ashwini Kodipalli, and Professor Baishali Garai from IISc Bengaluru. Although no prior knowledge is required, basic Python familiarity will help learners get the most out of the programme.

What the Course Covers

  • History and evolution of Deep Learning

  • Image representation, preprocessing, and data augmentation

  • Building simple CNN models for binary and multiclass classification

  • Transfer learning and ensemble model building

  • Introduction to Explainable AI (XAI) and its algorithms

  • Evaluation metrics for segmentation; UNet-based segmentation models

  • LSTM architecture, BiLSTM, and stacked LSTMs

  • Transformer models, Large Language Models (LLMs), and more

Course Certificate

Learners who want a certificate must appear for the proctored, in-person exam on April 25, 2026.The exam will be held in two sessions:

  • 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

  • 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

The exam fee is ₹1,000, and candidates will need to report to designated exam centres.
