IIT Delhi Launches BTech in Design Programme for 2025: Here’s How to Apply

New Delhi, June 10 — The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced the launch of a new four-year undergraduate programme, BTech in Design, beginning from the academic year 2025–26. Offered by the Department of Design, this innovative programme combines design thinking with technical expertise, focusing on solving real-world socio-technical problems.

Dual Entrance Requirement: JEE Advanced + UCEED

Admissions to the BTech in Design programme will be based on performance in two national-level entrance exams: the JEE (Advanced) and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Aspirants must qualify both to be considered for admission — passing only one will not suffice.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Have completed Class XII in 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.

  • For UCEED, be born on or after October 1, 2000. Candidates from SC, ST, and PwD categories are eligible for a five-year age relaxation.

Application Process

The application process will take place online through the IIT Delhi admissions portal. Students are advised to confirm their eligibility before initiating the application.

Key dates for application submission, counselling, and seat allotment will be made available on the official website. Regularly checking for updates is strongly recommended.

Programme Structure

  • Duration: 4 years

  • Credits: 155

  • Initial Intake: 20 students

Nearly 50% of the coursework will be centered on core design subjects, while the rest will include interdisciplinary courses from across the institute. The curriculum will include:

  • Design frameworks and prototyping

  • Mechanics of solids and fluids

  • Environmental science

  • Research methods

  • Communication and teamwork

  • Design entrepreneurship

  • Exhibition design

The programme is structured to equip students with systematic design thinking, problem-solving skills, and practical, hands-on learning opportunities.

Broader Curriculum Overhaul

This new offering is part of a broader academic reform at IIT Delhi. From 2025–26 onwards, curriculum updates will be implemented across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.
