Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will launch a new undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Design, beginning in the next academic session (BDes). The Institute's Department of Design, which was established in 2017, will be offering the BDes curriculum. To begin, there will be 20 places available in the four-year programme, which will be open to students of all specialisations (Science, Arts, Commerce etc.).
Students will be admitted to the BDes programme based on their UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) scores. At uceed.iitb.ac.in, you can register for the UCEED examination.
Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, stated of the new programme, "We are excited about beginning off this new Bachelor's degree in design as this is the first time IIT Delhi will be accepting undergraduate students (BDes) from disciplines other than Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics." We anticipate that students who get a B. Des. degree from IIT Delhi would eventually take on leadership roles in industry, academia, government, consultancy, and entrepreneurship.”
Since 1994, IIT Delhi has offered a Master of Design (MDes) programme.
IIT Delhi's Department of Design also boasts a strong PhD programme, with around 35 research researchers currently enrolled in the programme.
