JNU Extends PhD Admission Deadline to July 28 for NET, JRF, and GATE Applicants


New Delhi, July 23: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has extended the last date for submission of online application forms for admission to its PhD programmes for the academic year 2025-26. As per the latest notification, candidates can now apply until July 28, 2025.

The admissions are open through various national-level qualifications, including UGC-CSIR NET, Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) offered by UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, and NBHM, and GATE (specifically for programmes in the School of Engineering).

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for admission, applicants must:

  • Hold the requisite educational qualifications in the relevant field.

  • Possess valid NET, JRF, or GATE scores as specified in the university’s e-Prospectus.Applications lacking either of these criteria will be summarily rejected.

Key Admission Guidelines

  • Applicants can choose up to three fields of study in order of preference; however, preferences once submitted cannot be altered.

  • The entire application process is online. Offline applications will not be entertained.

  • GATE-qualified candidates are eligible only for PhD programmes under the School of Engineering.

  • For the JRF category, the fellowship certificate must be valid at the time of document verification.

Admission Process by Category

For UGC/CSIR NET Candidates:

  • Admission will be based on the NET percentiles (from June 2024 onward).

  • The final selection will have a 70:30 weightage, with 70% based on the NET percentile and 30% on viva-voce performance.

For JRF Candidates:

  • Candidates must apply separately under this category.

  • Selection will be entirely based on the viva-voce, with 100% weightage.

  • Candidates holding eligibility for lectureship/assistant professorship without JRF are not eligible to apply under the JRF category.
