Suchitra Ella Champions Andhra's Handloom Legacy at Bharat Tex, Engages with Artisans and Officials




New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh's rich handloom and handicraft heritage received a significant boost at Bharat Tex as Suchitra Ella, Honorary Advisor for Handlooms & Handicrafts to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, visited the Andhra Pradesh Pavilion at Bharat Mandapam and held extensive interactions with artisans, officials, and industry stakeholders.

Known for her commitment to preserving India's traditional crafts while encouraging innovation, Suchitra Ella spent considerable time interacting with master artisans representing some of Andhra Pradesh's finest craft traditions. She met Kalamkari artists, handloom weavers, and handicraft makers, appreciating their intricate craftsmanship and discussing the opportunities and challenges faced by artisan communities.


During her visit, Ella held detailed discussions with Rekha Rani, Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Andhra Pradesh, on strategies to strengthen the handloom and handicrafts sector. Their conversations focused on expanding market access, encouraging design innovation, improving branding, attracting investments, and creating sustainable livelihoods for artisans across the state.


The discussions also explored ways to position Andhra Pradesh's traditional textiles and handicrafts on national and international platforms through stronger collaborations, improved market linkages, and greater participation in global trade events such as Bharat Tex.

Ella emphasized the importance of preserving the state's centuries-old weaving and craft traditions while equipping artisans with modern tools, contemporary designs, and digital marketing opportunities. She encouraged greater collaboration between designers, entrepreneurs, government agencies, and artisan clusters to ensure Andhra Pradesh's heritage crafts remain globally competitive.

Her interaction with artisans reflected a deep appreciation for the skill, dedication, and cultural significance behind every handcrafted product. She listened to their experiences, understood their concerns, and exchanged ideas on enhancing product development and expanding export opportunities.

Bharat Tex has emerged as one of India's premier textile events, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, exporters, designers, buyers, and artisans from across the country. Andhra Pradesh's pavilion showcased the state's celebrated handloom traditions, including Kalamkari, alongside a diverse range of handcrafted products that drew significant attention from visitors.
