In a stunning display of fearless power-hitting, India Under-19 tore into the record books with a massive opening stand against South Africa Under-19 in the third Youth ODI on Wednesday. The moment belonged to 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his opening partner Aaron George, who struck emphatic centuries to drive India to unprecedented heights in the bilateral series.
Their monumental 227-run stand for the first wicket not only dismantled South Africa’s bowling attack but also eclipsed India’s previous Youth ODI opening partnership record of 218, set in 2013. The historic alliance sent a strong message of intent ahead of next week’s ICC Under-19 World Cup.
Captaining the side in the absence of regular skipper Ayush Mhatre, Suryavanshi scripted history of his own. At just 14 years and 9 months, he became the youngest captain ever to score a century in Youth ODI history, adding yet another world record to his rapidly growing résumé.
South Africa’s decision to bowl first at Willowmoore Park proved costly as the Indian openers launched a relentless assault from the outset, racing to 100 runs inside the ninth over. Suryavanshi led the charge with stunning authority, producing an innings that blended audacity with precision.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings at a glance:
Runs: 127
Balls: 73
Strike Rate: 173.97
Boundaries: 9 fours, 10 sixes
Although he was dismissed in the 26th over, caught at deep square leg, the damage was irreparable. Aaron George carried the onslaught forward, reaching his own century in the 29th over to further crush South Africa’s hopes.
Already hailed as one of cricket’s brightest young stars, Suryavanshi continues to shatter milestones. Earlier in 2026, he broke Rishabh Pant’s record for the fastest Youth ODI fifty, achieving the feat in just 15 balls against South Africa. He had previously stunned the cricketing world with a 52-ball century against England—the fastest hundred at the Under-19 level—and became the youngest player ever to be picked at an IPL auction.
With performances like these, Vaibhav Suryavanshi isn’t just announcing his arrival—he’s redefining what’s possible at the junior level.
