Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said on Wednesday that active work on methods is needed to reopen schools that have been closed for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. School, according to the AIIMS Director, is a place where people grow via various activities. Students have been impacted by school closures, particularly those from low-income families who cannot afford online programmes.
Dr. Guleria was reported by news agency ANI as stating, "I personally believe that we should aggressively work on opening schools since it has truly harmed the young generation in terms of information, especially the marginalised ones who can't go for online classes."
The subject of reopening schools has come up again as the number of Covid cases has decreased. When pupils can expect to return to physical education lessons, the central government was recently questioned. Schools can reopen after a large section of the population has been vaccinated against COVID-19, the administration announced Tuesday afternoon. Following the nationwide Covid lockdown in March of last year, educational institutions around the country were forced to close. In February-March 2021, most states restored physical teaching-learning activities, only to shut them down again due to the second wave of coronavirus.
“Physical schools are beneficial because they assist individuals in growing, as well as providing opportunities for interaction among students and other activities in the classroom, all of which contribute significantly to the formation of children's character. According to ANI, Dr. Guleria added, "We should try to work on ways so that schools can be open." On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the state Education Department to look into the possibilities of reopening schools and colleges for children in grades 10 and 12 in villages where COVID-19 incidents have not been reported.
Telangana schools will reopen for regular classes on July 1st. The state government announced the decision earlier this month after reviewing reports provided by Telangana Medical and Health Department authorities and taking into account the lowering number of Covid cases.
