A telerobotic ultrasonography system has been created by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. This technology uses a robotic arm to provide remote ultrasound access. According to a release from IIT Delhi, the system was developed by a research team that includes professionals from IIT Delhi, AIIMS New Delhi, and Addverb Technologies.
Prof. Chetan Arora and Prof. Subir Kumar Saha led the study team at IIT Delhi, while Dr. Chandrashekhara from AIIMS was in charge and Mr. Suvayan Nandi from Addverb Technologies was the main contributor. The doctor stands close to the patients during an ultrasound treatment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, however, it was vital to keep a social distance between the doctor and the patient.
“This requirement came to us from the faculty of AIIMS New Delhi, when the entire nation was put under lockdown in June 2020, and the number of cases and deaths was rising rapidly,” Prof. Chetan Arora and Prof. Subir Kumar Saha from IIT Delhi stated in a statement. Regular health-care services, particularly those involving direct physical contact with patients, were impacted by the current scenario.
