From Saluting His Duty to Saluting His Daughter: Bihar Inspector’s Dream Comes True

In a touching story of determination, inspiration, and family pride, a police inspector from Bihar will soon stand in salute—not to a senior officer, but to his own daughter who has earned a place in the prestigious Indian Police Service.

Ruchi Singh, daughter of Inspector Ram Shankar Singh, has secured the 171st rank in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2025. Her success means she is set to join the Indian Police Service, the same uniformed force that inspired her dreams since childhood.

Hailing from Begusarai, Ruchi grew up watching her father serve in khaki. That image of discipline and public service quietly shaped her ambition. Years later, the daughter who once watched her father leave for duty will return home as an IPS officer—an achievement that has filled her family and village with immense pride.

Celebrations have already begun in her native village of Mahendrapur in the Matihani block of Begusarai. Residents are distributing sweets and preparing a grand welcome for the young officer whose success has brought national attention to the small village.

Ruchi’s academic journey reflects years of dedication. She completed her schooling up to Class 10 at BRDAV Public School and later moved to Delhi, where she finished Class 12 from Delhi Public School RK Puram in 2017. She went on to graduate from St. Stephen's College, one of the country’s most prestigious institutions.

Before cracking the civil services examination, Ruchi was serving as a BSc-qualified officer at the DPR office in Lakhisarai, Bihar. But her larger dream was always to serve the nation through the civil services.

Her achievement comes as part of the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2025 results, in which 958 candidates have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and other central services.

The examination this year was topped by Anuj Agnihotri, followed by Rajeshwari Suve M and Akanksha Dhull.

For Inspector Ram Shankar Singh, however, the most meaningful moment lies ahead—the day his daughter returns home in uniform. When that day arrives, the proud father may find himself doing what he has done all his life: standing straight, raising his hand, and offering a salute—this time to his own child.
