July 1, Aizawl: In a bid to promote science education and inspire young minds in remote regions, Prof. Ravi P. Singh from IIT Delhi visited several schools and colleges across Mizoram as part of the Northeast Outreach Programme. Prof. Singh, who also serves as the national coordinator for Chemistry under the IIT-PAL initiative, conducted a series of hands-on science workshops aimed at igniting curiosity and encouraging students to explore careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

The workshops were held in institutions including Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mamit, PM Shri Navodaya Vidyalaya in Thingsulthliah, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya in Zemabawk, and the Mizoram University campus. The sessions combined informal discussions, engaging demonstrations, and live experiments, creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment.

“These workshops are designed to move beyond textbooks and encourage students to ask questions, explore ideas, and develop scientific thinking,” said Prof. Singh. “By sparking interest in STEM fields early on, we hope to empower students to become innovators and problem-solvers for the future.”

Students participated enthusiastically in hands-on experiments, followed by discussions that simplified complex scientific concepts. Prof. Singh encouraged them to think creatively, develop hypotheses, and experiment independently, promoting a deeper understanding of the scientific method.

The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from students, teachers, and the local community, who appreciated the exposure to quality science education and mentorship from a leading IIT academic.

The workshops are part of the broader IIT-PAL (IIT Professor Assisted Learning) programme, which provides free, high-quality video lectures and interactive learning support for classes XI and XII. The lectures, created by IIT faculty, are broadcast on the Ministry of Education’s Swayam Prabha channels and accessible via Doordarshan DTH Channel 22.
