Due to the ongoing Covid outbreak in India, the International Baccalaureate (IB) will not perform examinations in the country for its May 2021 assessments.
In the country, there are approximately 185 IB-affiliated schools. “Due to the rising cases of Covid-19 and ongoing conversations with our colleges, organisations, and other stakeholders, the IB has told schools of our decision to not conduct examinations in India. For the May 2021 session, we plan to award students' results in India for the Diploma Program and Career-related Program using coursework marks and predicted grades, as defined in the awarding model outlined in February. Students will be awarded results using the Alternative Evaluation challenge for the Middle Years Programme in subjects where there are usually on-screen assessments,” said an IB spokesperson.
The IB announced in February that it would use a "dual route strategy" to determine which route would be better for schools in a given area. Written assessments were one choice, which could be done safely, and the other was a mixture of internal evaluation coursework and teacher-predicted ratings. It informed Indian schools on Wednesday night that the alternative evaluation route will be used.
