New Delhi: The 71st National Film Awards were held today at Vigyan Bhawan, where President Droupadi Murmu felicitated winners for their work released in 2023. The ceremony turned historic as Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Vikrant Massey received their first-ever National Awards in acting.
Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey jointly bagged the Best Actor award for their performances in Jawan and 12th Fail, while Rani Mukerji won Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
For the occasion, Shah Rukh Khan exuded charisma in a black bandhgala, paired with sunglasses and an ear cuff, adding his signature style to the grand moment. The win marks a milestone in his three-decade-long career, with Jawan—directed by Atlee—emerging as one of the biggest Hindi blockbusters, crossing ₹1,000 crore at the global box office.
Rani Mukerji, graceful in a brown saree with minimal jewellery, was lauded for her moving portrayal of a mother fighting for her children in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, a film inspired by real events.
Vikrant Massey, dressed in a white bandhgala, was recognised for his role in 12th Fail, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s sleeper hit based on the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. Made on a modest budget of ₹20 crore, the film grossed nearly ₹70 crore and won critical acclaim for Massey’s heartfelt performance.
