Updated: Jul 10, 2021

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is hosting a ‘Global Water and Climate Adaption Centre,' which is being developed with the help of a German government agency to address global concerns such as water security and climate adaptation. The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre is designed to serve as a catalyst for future collaboration in higher education, research, technology, and knowledge transfer by incentivizing, bundling, and amplifying collective efforts. Professor SA Sannasiraj, Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras, is the center's director.

The main hub will be located at IIT Madras, with a satellite hub planned for the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok. In the presence of distinguished dignitaries from IIT Madras and the German Academic Exchange Service, it was opened on June 30 in a virtual event (DAAD).

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is establishing this centre in partnership with the German institutes of the Technical University of Dresden and RWTH Aachen University. 'ABCD' is the name of this facility (Aachen-Bangkok-Chennai-Dresden).
