Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India was born on November 14, 1889.
Some well-known facts every child must know:
1.Jawaharlal Nehru attended Cambridge's Trinity College and Harrow as a student. He earned his law degree from Inner Temple. There, he was called Joe Nehru with affection.
2. From January 1934 to February 1935, he was imprisoned, and it was during this time that he authored his autobiography, Toward Freedom. In 1936, it was published in America.
3. In a show of defiance toward the west, he stopped dressing in western attire. Instead, he wore a jacket that became known as the Nehru Jacket. He kept roses under his jacket and used to compete with kids for a rosebud.
4.He was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize several times from 1950 to 1955. He was nominated by national and international agencies a total of 11 times.
5. He wrote two books on India and the world Discovery of India and Glimpses of the World. Both books reveal his immense knowledge of India as well as the world. Glimpses of World History is actually a collection of 146 letters that he wrote to his only daughter, Indira Gandhi.
